Philip Melugin Discusses How Sound Leadership Built Phoenix Home Care

In Health and Beauty on October 8, 2012 at 10:49 am
Philip Melugin

Philip Melugin

Philip Melugin founded Phoenix Home Care in 2011. A little more than a year later, the organization has seen astronomical growth. This is in large part due to Philip Melugin’s strong leadership and the environment he creates within an organization. Here, the home health care administrator answers some questions he frequently receives about his leadership and how it factors into Phoenix Home Care’s success.

Q: When was Phoenix Home Care established?

Philip Melugin: We opened our doors in May 2011 and, in just over a year, have grown to a company that employs more than 700.

Q: How is this impacting the local economy?

Philip Melugin: Phoenix Home Care was recently acknowledged for its positive economic impact by the Springfield Business Journal.

Q: Describe the growth Phoenix Home Care has seen since 2011.

Philip Melugin: We’re currently annualizing $19 million, with 16,000 hours of service. This has helped provide additional jobs for healthcare workers and helped fulfill the need for services in the areas of Kansas and Missouri we support.

Q: And you continue to grow. To what do you attribute your success?

Philip Melugin: At Phoenix Home Care, we emphasize the importance of personalized, compassionate treatment for our clients. We believe this sets us apart from other healthcare agencies.

Q: Does the fact that you’re going into people’s homes pose challenges?

Philip Melugin: Yes, and this is why we choose our workers with great care.  Our employees are expected to have the same commitment to quality care as our management team. We also place strong emphasis on core values when choosing employees. We believe that this value system filters down to our clients through our personnel.

Q: How do you narrow that down in the interview?

Philip Melugin: We have an in-depth interview process that screens applicants beyond their job history. It’s important to us to find candidates who have a compassionate heart that will drive everything they do in providing care for our clients. We also stress Christ-like values of compassion, honesty, and patients for everyone who works for Phoenix Home Care.

Prior to joining Phoenix Home Care, Philip Melugin was co-owner of Integrity Home Care and assistant vice president of Oxford Health Care. Philip Melugin has served on several advisory boards to advocate for the advancement of treatment for the ABD population. Melugin lives in Missouri with his wife of 24 years and his children, two of whom are studying for careers in medicine.

Direct Media Power, Inc. | Why Radio Offers the Best Value in Advertising

Direct Media Power

Direct Media Power

The benefits of radio don’t just stop at the commercial, says Direct Media Power. Today, the pay per call advertising expert speaks with Presentation Solutions about all broadcast radio can do for your advertising budget.

Presentation Solutions: Good morning. Let’s talk about what radio advertising offers over other media outlets, such as TV and print.

Direct Media Power: Radio has numerous benefits and is simply the most affordable large-scale advertising method available.

Presentation Solutions: Drive time is the Prime Time of radio. How can focusing a message on commuters translate into revenue for your clients?

Direct Media Power: First, we like to think of our clients as partners, since we assume a large financial risk for most industries that work with us. But to answer the question, when commuters are headed to or from work, they have ample time to reflect on their personal lives such as piling debt or legal issues.

Presentation Solutions: So, a radio commercial may spike their interest based on what they are thinking about at the time?

Direct Media Power: Yes. Radio is an intrusive form of advertising. This means that, unlike a magazine where the target can simply ignore the ad, radio cuts into their train of thought intentionally. If your message is one that grabs them, they are very unlikely to change the station.

Presentation Solutions: Radio also offers the added benefit of being played for everyone within earshot, too…

Direct Media Power: Exactly, plus since radio is so affordable using our bulk buy methods, offering your commercial repetitively can help hammer your message into your customer’s minds.

Presentation Solutions: Repetition is what creates memories…

Direct Media Power: And, since radio is a media that forces listeners to use their imagination, the messages delivered can take on a personal meaning to each listener. This is very powerful because it becomes a familiar thought and the advertising business remains in the customer’s mind for longer than a visual commercial.

Presentation Solutions: Does combining radio with TV or print ads increase its success?

Direct Media Power: Not necessarily. People listen to radio to keep from reading after a long day in front of a computer, they listen when they are driving or cleaning and cannot read.

Presentation Solutions: So you are saying that standalone radio advertising is effective in itself?

Direct Media Power: Absolutely.

Presentation Solutions: Can you give our readers an example of the types of businesses that Direct Media Power can help launch a profitable radio campaign?

Direct Media Power: We have worked with all different industries that require a “lead” to make a sale.  Tax settlement is our largest vertical and we are the largest supplier of live radio calls to this industry.  Law offices also work well with our program since we work with attorneys to deliver their messages quite often. Any business that earns clientele directly, without a retail counter or other middleman, can use radio to their advantage.

Presentation Solutions: So essentially any lead-based direct-to-consumer product or service?

Direct Media Power: Yes, that about sums it up!

Presentation Solutions: We are out of time for today but hope that you will speak with us more in this subject later.

Direct Media Power: It would be our pleasure.

Direct Media Power, Inc. offers radio-only service and has proven this media successful time and time again. With cooperating network partners throughout the US, Direct Media Power offers a virtually limitless listenership that can be targeting by network or region. No other agency of its kind offers these services for the same affordable fixed-rate per call pricing.

Paul Savramis Shares One of the Visions Behind Rising Stars

In Sports on October 3, 2012 at 3:19 am
Paul Savramis

Paul Savramis

In 1996, Paul Savramis founded Rising Stars, an organization that helps youth by enrolling them into positive programs and keeping them enrolled and engaged in activities throughout high school. His vision of offering positive alternatives to the many challenges that kids will face throughout the formative years year-round has followed Rising Stars through its success today, achieving recognition from many of the nation’s leaders and celebrities.

The vision began when Paul Savramis realized sports, specifically basketball, provided a perfect backdrop for youth to learn some of the most important educational/life lessons and values they can. Through Rising Stars’ camps clinics, and teams Paul Savramis has taught kids skills in basketball and, more importantly, in life. Becoming a “team player”, the mentality stressed in Rising Stars, translated into other areas, like schoolwork, community service, the importance of family values and, later, career success.

Paul Savramis’ “Whiz Kids” began capturing nationwide attention as a way to reach out and inspire youth with a positive message soon after he founded the organization. The Whiz Kids appeared on The Johnny Carson Show and were invited to appear at basketball camp with Michael Jordan. Many alumni from Rising Stars went on to find great success in high school, college sports and in business. Some progressed on to professional basketball but all went on to graduate HS and attend college. The vision of using basketball to help get into the college of choice was one that Paul Savramis continues to emphasize.

The foundation for Paul Savramis’ work with Rising Stars began during his time in college, where he learned to tie education and sports together. Savramis obtained his Master’s degree from Queens College, where he majored in physical education with a minor in child psychology.

In addition to its regular programs, Rising Stars offers basketball camps for others. As Paul Savramis explains, these basketball camps in some cases last only one day but the value remains throughout the year. One organization that came to Rising Stars to help them attract children from more diverse backgrounds was the Boy Scouts OF America. The concept was the idea of Trey Fergusson a former Rising Stars Whiz Kid. The program was a great success and was  embraced nationally .Rising Stars also is the mainstay of the basketball camp offerings of Long Island Lutheran, the nation’s largest summer program.

Paul Savramis has set up these camps so that there is one coach to every five children, giving participants an intensive day of lessons that can vastly improve their abilities in basketball.

During his time as director of basketball for Rising Stars , Paul Savramis arranged for greats like Magic Johnson and Steve Nash to show up for Rising Stars’ camps. Being able to work with coaches who are also sports heroes leaves an indelible mark on young players, Paul Savramis has seen.

Many other basketball camps around the world have emulated the structure of the clinics set up by Paul Savramis. Rising Stars seeks to provide a safe place for children to learn to play and interact with each other, according to Paul Savramis. In many ways, these basketball camps provide youths a constructive outlet for their collective energies. The goal of Paul Savramis for Rising Stars has always been to bring children from diverse backgrounds together in an effort to enhance their physical and mental well-being.

Still, Paul Savramis emphasizes the importance of fun in everything Rising Stars does. While the skills taught in Rising Stars are important, it’s also important that children be doing something they love, Paul Savramis believes. In the end, Rising Stars provides an important outlet on many levels for any child who has an interest in athletics. The interest begins with athletics but grows to include interests in so much more.

Cardio vs. Strength Training: Which is Better?

In Health and Beauty, Lifestyle on September 19, 2012 at 6:37 pm

In recent years, a subtle battle seems to have been waged between those who focus most of their workouts on cardio and strength training enthusiasts. The latter group cites studies showing cardio is ineffective, while cardio lovers quote numerous studies touting the many health benefits of aerobic activity.

The truth is, both types of workouts have their strengths and weaknesses. Below is a breakdown of each.

Cardio Pros

  • Mental benefits. Cardio elevates the brain’s serotonin levels, which is thought to reduce depression and feelings of stress.
  • Burn more calories. While strength training burns its share of calories, too, cardio training usually involves steady, consistent exercise, where strength training incorporates quite a few breaks as weights and exercises are changed. For this reason, cardio workouts will usually burn more calories in a set period.

Cardio Cons

  • Extreme cardio has been linked to cardiovascular problems in some studies. This is often seen in cases where individuals exercise to excess, as seen in marathon runners.
  • Cardio increases appetite. The theory here is that as you burn calories, you’ll crave more and unless you’re careful, you may end up undoing all your progress.

Strength Training Pros

  • Muscle burns fat. The benefits of strength training continue long after you’ve left the gym. Because muscle requires your body to exert more energy, you actually burn calories throughout the day.
  • Long-term effects. Strength training has been found to have more long-term weight loss effects than cardio training.

Strength Training Cons

  • Joint damage. If done improperly, strength training can damage joints, especially if a person doesn’t give the muscles time to repair between workouts.
  • Less cardiovascular benefits. The health benefits of cardio have been stated repeatedly. Strength training isn’t thought to have the same benefits, although it’s hard to do strength training without getting your heart rate up, which is what provides those health benefits.

Which is better? In truth, the answer is that any exercise you do each day has significant health benefits. Most experts believe a combination of both is best, but if you’re doing an exercise regime you enjoy, you’re more likely to stick with it, so base your choice on the activities you enjoy doing.

Dr. William Knudson Discusses Fallen Arches

In Health and Beauty on September 13, 2012 at 4:57 pm
  Dr. William Knudson

Dr. William Knudson

Dr. William Knudson is an Iowa native who serves patients from his Leesville, Virginia office. Through Podiatric Care of Northern Virginia, Dr. William Knudson regularly sees patients complaining of foot pain and discomfort. One of the primary causes of foot pain, Dr. William Knudson explains, is fallen arches. Today he talks to the staff of Presentation Solutions about the causes of fallen arches, what can be done to prevent them, and what he does to treat them.

Presentation Solutions: How do I know when my foot pain is due to fallen arches?

Dr. William Knudson: Well, with fallen arches, the pain is usually isolated to one area of the foot.

Presentation Solutions: The arch of the foot, right?

Dr. William Knudson: Actually, not necessarily the entire arch. Often the pain is within the arch but in one small area.

Presentation Solutions: Will I notice that pain when I’m standing or sitting?

Dr. William Knudson: Many of my patients first notice the pain while standing. It gets worse after they’ve walked around for a while. In some cases, the pain radiates through the entire foot.

Presentation Solutions: Is pain the only symptom?

Dr. William Knudson: Some of my patients also see swelling.

Presentation Solutions: What causes the arches to fall?

Dr. William Knudson: There can be a variety of causes. In some cases, aging causes the arches to fall and in others, a sports injury can develop after repetitive use. We also see patients who have worked in jobs that require standing throughout the day on a hard surface, especially if those patients were wearing shoes with inadequate arch support.

Presentation Solutions: What happens in the foot when an arch falls?

Dr. William Knudson: As I tell my patients, the arch of the foot is comprised of joints and muscles, which are bound together to form a sort of bridge. With improper force over time, that bridge can begin to collapse, which is where the pain comes in.

Presentation Solutions: How do you treat fallen arches?

Dr. William Knudson: There are over-the-counter arch supports that can help. I also recommend ice and rest for short-term relief.

Presentation Solutions: Is more long-term relief available?

Dr. William Knudson: There are several long-term treatments that are much more intensive. I recommend anyone suffering from ongoing pain due to fallen arches see a podiatrist as soon as possible for more effective treatment.

For Virginia residents suffering pain from fallen arches, Dr. William Knudson practices in the Leesburg area at Podiatric Care of Northern Virginia. If your busy schedule prohibits daytime office visits, Dr. William Knudson and his staff offer extended hours. In addition to care for fallen arches, Dr. William Knudson can help with a variety of foot problems, including bunions, heel pain, corns, and plantar warts.

Douglas Andrew Explains the Best Route to Financial Success

In Finance on August 24, 2012 at 2:39 pm
Douglas Andrew

Douglas Andrew

Douglas Andrew is often called upon to explain his Laser method of securing wealth—liquidity, safety, and rate of return. In his experience, Douglas Andrew explains, maximum funded tax-advantaged life insurance contracts provide all three. It’s important that they be structured correctly, as outlined in Douglas Andrew’s Missed Fortune books and workshops. Douglas Andrew recently spoke to Presentation Solutions about the best way to structure policies.

Presentation Solutions: Explain what you mean by “maximum funded.”

Douglas Andrew: I like to use the analogy of a five-story building. If someone owns a five-story building, but only keeps the first couple of floors rented, that person may have trouble meeting his or her overhead.

Presentation Solutions: So the goal is to rent out all five floors.

Douglas Andrew: Which, in this case, would translate to funding your life insurance contract at the maximum amount allowed.

Presentation Solutions: But a person can’t do this all at once, right?

Douglas Andrew: Under the tax laws, the money must be built up gradually. The goal would be to rent out the first floor then, over time, the second floor and onto the third.

Presentation Solutions: How long should this process take?

Douglas Andrew: It depends on the person’s age, but by the fifth year, the person really starts to see results. I just tell our clients to be patient those first few years.

Presentation Solutions: What if someone is too old to take out a life insurance policy?

Douglas Andrew: I have clients in their sixties and seventies who do this.

Presentation Solutions: Do they have to take out a specific type of plan?

Douglas Andrew: My older clients often will take out a “second to die” or “survivorship” policy.

Presentation Solutions: Do all life insurance companies have these types of policies?

Douglas Andrew: No, only a select group of companies offer these. Missed Fortune helps clients find the best policy for them.

Presentation Solutions: What about your younger clients? Can they go through any life insurance company to do that?

Douglas Andrew: I always stress the importance of choosing the right financial advisor. Our wealth architects at Missed Fortune have a specific expertise in this type of funding.

Presentation Solutions: How can individuals learn more about maximum funded tax-advantaged life insurance contracts?

Douglas Andrew: The quickest approach is to meet with one of our wealth architects.  Additionally, there are many resources, including videos, workshops, and educational materials.  I would recommend someone visit the Missed Fortune website and go from there.

Douglas Andrew regularly conducts workshops in addition to his Missed Fortune books. For more information about Douglas Andrew and Missed Fortune, visit http://www.missedfortune.com.

Traveling to Italy

Kyle Thomas Glasser

Kyle Thomas Glasser

Kyle Thomas Glasser has grown up with a lot of talent and with great plans to fulfill his dreams. Kyle is a medical student who loves music and especially the piano. He has won an award in playing the piano and this is why he has plans and hopes of going to Italy. He has picked a few places that he will visit in Italy while still holding his quest to succeed in his medical career.

Kyle wishes to visit La Fenice in Italy where he feels that the people have done a lot in building their music. This music hall has burnt down twice and they worked hard to rebuild the place. Being a music fan, Kyle feels that there plenty of history and music lessons that one would benefit from visiting this place. It is an amazing structure that has been built with a lot of architectural design and Kyle says that he has to see it one day.

The next place that Kyle plans to see is the Regio Torino. This building was also damaged by fire and then it was rebuilt and still stands tall. This was a very tragic disaster that happened in Italy but it has now come back with a lot of power. The Regio Torino is a theater that people gather as professionals play music, theatrical plays and even the famous classic operas. Kyle is very keen to see all these events because he loves them all with one breath.

Kyle also wants to see the San Carlo which is known as the oldest opera building throughout Italy. This is the house where the very first ballet presentation was done and this is still very memorable. The museum is being built and soon it will be complete and Kyle can view all the classic operas and music events as they happened. This is a place with the most beautiful comedy and it is as old as 1737.

Massimo is another beautiful place that Kyle intends to visit. The place holds different cultural events of Sicily and this part of the music in Italy today. The cultures mix from Arabic to Spanish and even Italian.

Kyle Thomas Glasser also plans to see the Arena di Verona where he believes he will find history and a connection to music. Kyle knows that these places are his dreams but he knows that through his medical career he will be able to fulfill his dreams.

Missed Fortune Founder Douglas Andrew Discusses Safety in Wealth Accumulation

Missed Fortune

Missed Fortune

Missed Fortune (www.missedfortune.com) educates individuals regarding the Laser method of wealth planning—liquidity, safety, and rate of return, as well as tax benefits. Missed Fortune educates clients about how to enjoy healthy rates of return; keeping funds liquid so that they can access them when they need them. Today, Missed Fortune founder Douglas Andrew talks to Presentation Solutions about safety in wealth accumulation.

Presentation Solutions: Safety is a big concern for many individuals these days, with the current economic environment. Has Missed Fortune seen an increase in this concern?

Missed Fortune: Yes, and this is why we always make a point to address safety in Missed Fortune’s workshops and educational materials. For many of our clients, the primary concern is with the banks and financial institutions where money is parked.

Presentation Solutions: How does Missed Fortune help individuals create “predictability” in retirement and wealth planning?

Missed Fortune: In our Missed Fortune materials, we give the example of Dr. Edwards Deming, the total quality management engineer who transformed Japan into the quality exporter of electronics and automobiles it is today. Dr. Deming said management of anything in life is predictability.

Presentation Solutions: Including funds?

Missed Fortune: Yes. We have to create predictable safety in our financial institutions.

Presentation Solutions: There were many banks that didn’t survive the Great Depression.

Missed Fortune: Quite true; forty percent of banks never opened their doors again, as we mention in the Missed Fortune materials. Some real estate dropped as much as 80 percent. But there was one group that did not falter during the Great Depression – the life insurance industry.

Presentation Solutions: How could the insurance industry survive when so many banks failed?

Missed Fortune: The life insurance industry falls under very strict regulations set by legal reserve requirements that are far more stringent than those set for banks and financial institutions.

Presentation Solutions: Many of them were established in the 1800s.

Missed Fortune: Many banks and credit unions have as much as 30-40% of their tier one assets invested in insurance companies for liquidity and safety.

Presentation Solutions: That’s definitely very telling.

Missed Fortune: Insurance companies have a greater ability to provide liquidity for their customers.

Presentation Solutions: But insurance companies invest, too, don’t they?

Missed Fortune: Yes, often insurance companies will have as much as 70-80% of their general account portfolio invested in AAA and AA bonds. They might have 15-20% loaned out on property investments like skyscrapers and shopping malls.  They also have 10-20% liquid.

Presentation Solutions: What if they have to foreclose on one of those properties?

Missed Fortune: They still come out with a huge profit.

Presentation Solutions: So what you are saying is that these life insurance companies are known for being safe…

Missed Fortune: Absolutely! In fact, they’re notorious for having that safety built in and being very smart with their funds.

To Douglas Andrew and the team at Missed Fortune, safety is a priority in wealth accumulation, just behind liquidity. Andrew shares his strategies in his workshops and educational materials, all available through his website, http://www.missedfortune.com.

Texas Lending (TexasLending.com) Home Equity Loans

Texas Lending

Texas Lending

Texas Lending (TexasLending.com) has spent more than a decade in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, building a reputation for providing quality, one-on-one service to homeowners. Each step of the process in securing a home loan through Texas Lending is made easier by the company’s focus on convenience. Texas Lending recently spoke with Presentation Solutions about a topic of concern to many consumers in today’s economy: home equity loans.

Presentation Solutions: Dallas-Fort Worth offers many solutions when it comes to home equity loans. What sets Texas Lending apart from all the others?

Texas Lending: We give each client a completely customized experience, from start to finish. Securing a home equity loan can be a complicated, overwhelming process and we’ve found that by breaking it down for our clients, we make it better for everyone involved. We’ve even taken some of the strain out of all the closing paperwork.

Presentation Solutions: Closing paperwork is definitely complicated. How does Texas Lending help with that?

Texas Lending: We’re one of the first mortgage lenders in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to offer e-signature capabilities. No more signing your name a thousand times in a row.

Presentation Solutions: I’m sure that’s a relief for your clients! Is Texas Lending seeing an increase in home equity loans due to the economy?

Texas Lending: Yes. The number of clients coming in for home equity loans, as opposed to traditional mortgage loans, has seen a marked increase. We’ve found that many homeowners are opting for major home renovations in lieu of moving, since many homes have not increased in value in recent years.

Presentation Solutions: What types of home loans are available to homeowners who visit Texas Lending?

Texas Lending: For those who qualify, we offer fixed term loans, as well as variable term loans.

Presentation Solutions: What will a homeowner need to qualify for a home equity loan?

Texas Lending: Several factors are taken into consideration starting with a good credit history  and your loan-to-value ratio. There are also closing costs associated with most home equity loans.

Presentation Solutions: How will a homeowner know which type of home equity loan is best?

Texas Lending: Since each person’s situation is different, we sit down with each customer and review his or her individual needs. In some cases, a home equity loan may not be advisable at all.

Presentation Solutions: What about balloon payments?

Texas Lending: With a balloon payment, the homeowner pays only the interest for the term of the loan, but at the end of the loan, the full amount comes due. Often the homeowner refinances at that point. We make sure our clients know the full terms of a balloon loan before making that choice.
